The QUESTION of Why women’s empowerment is so important?

Women’s empowerment is a part to encourage women to feel strong by
telling them that they can do everything that they want to do. The Myths
need to be broken, every woman needs to know their contribution count
and will change society positively.

Who understands the value of liberation better? Those who do not have
liberty, and have to survive with that knowledge? Or those who are
oblivious of their rights, and then happen to chance upon them, with the
whole world opening up for them? This is a subjective question, since we all
live different lives, and our experiences shape our understanding of
liberation differently. But one thing is for sure, liberation brings with it a
sense of empathy for others. This is yet another reason why the
empowerment of women is important; it is a chain reaction, as it can help
them liberate others.

Empowering men is directly proportional to empowering women and
shrinking the gender pay gap and this crisis seems to be cementing
traditional gender roles. Gender equality is not just about economic
empowerment. Making the most of the talent pool ensures that men and
women have an equal chance to contribute both at home and in the
workplace, thereby enhancing their well-being and that of society.

There is no denying the fact that there has been some sort of consciousness
and change for the better. A lot of people have at least started
acknowledging that there exists an imbalance in the society. As a woman, I
find this uplifting. However, I recognize a lot of cracks and flaws in the trend
that has started to emerge.

Let me prove the flaws from stating my own experience, I was asked by a
woman to wear a jacket since a man was staring at me constantly, glad
people care about other women but the question appears why ask me to
dress properly and not ask the guy to mind his own business?
This is the kind of mindset that leads people to ask, “But what was she
wearing?” when a woman reports a crime. If your answer to this question
was one in the list of the ‘immodest’ clothing choices the officer just listed,
you’re the reason you were harassed. What is interesting to note here is
that this list is not even ; it varies from place to place. Sorry to break it to
you people, but this claim wouldn’t be valid even in a twisted world where
women’s clothes are responsible for crimes against them. Sexual
harassment is a manifestation of power.

It should be duly recognized that the consciousness regarding ‘women
empowerment’ means things are changing. But, the kind of gaps that still
exist between the feminist movement and these acts of apparent ‘women
empowerment’ is enough proof for us to start questioning all that we are
fed.

We often see misogynist oppression in our daily lives and don’t even
recognise it. It may be something as subtle as a “Go make me a sandwich”
joke to a legitimate threat to life. It manifests in everyday life and
sometimes we don’t see it or if we do, we don’t stop it. If a joke made on
the statue of Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj leads to such a big disaster, why
not speak when a woman in every field is objectified, made fun of?

The use of rape as a tool of oppression, humiliation and control is not
limited to wars and conflict zones. In our everyday lives, it is manifested in
the way men from different communities rape women from the other as a
way of asserting their dominance over the community, and this problem is
all-pervasive. Dalit women are raped by upper-caste men who think they
are “putting them in their place.

Our society thinks it is preserving its culture, heritage by protesting on a
movie name like Padmavati, but will watch movies which objectify or
humiliate women or any caste.

This is something that we as a society must be willing to strive towards,
and breaking this culture requires men to take active steps towards
breaking the ecosystem that patriarchy and misandry thrive on.
