What comes to you mind when I say MUSIC? Is it your favorite song or some melody you’ve been humming today and you can’t remember what song is it from? I love listening to music, I mean majority of us do. Now if you are not a “music” person you might ask, what’s so amazing about it. Well to tell you not only humans but also animals love music. A scientific study concluded that classical music helps relax dogs and bark less, even a study done in India on cows gave the conclusion, that cows produced better quality of milk when they were induced to music. This is how crazy we animals are for music. Music is not only used for enjoyment or for a dance party but also for meditation, there are these binaural beats which are played while meditating, it calms the human body. Inducing oneself with such beats diminishes stress and alleviates the human mind.
There are so many genres of music – Indian classical, sufi, Ghazals, hip-hop, rock, Rap, EDM and many more. To be honest, I don’t have hatred for any genres, they all are so amazing from classical to EDM’s I love every kind of music, Although we all would agree that melody of any song matters. It should be catchy isn’t it? I would hate myself if I didn’t say this, I judge people through their taste in music, I mean c’mon we all have our different genres you could basically know the kind of person by looking at their playlist. Looking at my playlist some people would definitely get confused though, I literally have every kind of music stored in my playlist. Now judge me HAHA.
Music in India has been throughout ancient times, there was this god called Natraj who brought and introduced music in the Indian culture, it was a form of expressing anger, sadness, love to the audience. And throughout the times Music has been developed, influenced by various cultures and traditions of the world. Indian classical is immensely concentrated on lyrical part, while most of the western music is based on the melodies and beats. I am a lyrical person, I like meaningful lyrics in a song or its just “mumble” rap as Eminem calls it. However a melody also plays an important role in production of a music, as I said, it should be catchy for listeners who hear it. I have attempted to learn classical music for almost 4 years and I can say that you may learn music but you can never learn to make music, these vibrations and rhythms of a song formed in the artist’s brain they are something else. It’s the flow of creativity, you won’t feel like resting once you get the flow. The same thing goes for the listeners or at least for me, once I love a genre of music, it’s going to be ON REPEAT.
