B- Balancing is the Key to Sucess

Many a times a lot of people had been asking me, If Career is Important for a woman or Getting Married.

I was always focused in life and I always had the hunger to achieve something that is my own. This Hunger was clearly visible to everyone, so the number of times that I have been asked this question is immense.

Till date I am sure no man was ever asked If he had to choose between family and career, what would he choose.

I feel that this is the most senseless question that we ask women. Of Course, Family and Career both are important. Why should an individual be forced to make a choice between them. We often tell women that they need to quit careers once, they are married but we seldom tell them how to balance their careers and personal life. A lot of women quit their careers because they are asked to take extreme options.

Life is all about maintaining the right balance.

So how do we achieve the right balance, while balancing our Family and Career:

Firstly always remember one thing that not everyone gets everything. We all need to make a little bit of compromises and a little bit of adjustments, little bit of sacrifices, but to what extend, that is where we as an individual need to draw our line.

When you want to balance your career and family, the first thing that you as an individual need to remember is to take care of your health. If you are not physically healthy, then you can neither take care of your family or your career. So the first and foremost priority should be not exhausting yourself.

The second step should be to identify your strong support system. Always remember that you are not a super human being with immortal powers. You have your own limitations physically, mentally and emotionally. So instead of stressing yourself, you should try and find a strong support system. That support system can in form of your family members, maids, baby sitters, neighbours, local vendors. Your support system are the people on whom you are dependent for your day to day activities.

The third thing is do not fear to delegate. A lot of women, including me are very often shy when we need to delegate our work. That is the reason why we end up getting overwhelemed. Instead delegate your work when required.

The fourth and the most important thing is save time on travelling. A lot of times, it may happen that you may get a good job but the distance may be an issue. Atleast in the initial years of motherhood try and reduce your travel time so that you do not exhert yourself and end up being more productive at home and work.

Listen to all but follow your heart

While a lot of people may give you advice on what you should and how you should do, sometimes it may overwhelm you. A fool learns from his own mistake but a wise person learns from other’s mistake. Learn from other’s experiences, do not stop a person when they are sharing their own mistake. Listening can also help you a lot.

Love yourself first and then your baby and family

If you love yourself first then you will be easily able to love those near you. Often a lot of women end up hating themselves and those near them because they are unable to love themselves. Once people do the same, it will be much easier for you not to criticise your child or your spouse for any mishaps that happen in your life.

These were the simple tips that would help you in Balancing life and career.

  1. This is so rightly said, balancing is the key to success in every way – at work, at home, in diet everywhere.

  2. I sometimes think that we ourselves put so much pressure and raise the expectations bar so high that it becomes a default and anything less becomes unacceptable
