W- We Can Chat

This article is written as a part of the #BlogchatterA2Z Challenge for the Alphabet Q. The Theme for my Challenge is The Indian Television through the eyes of a 90s kid.

Chat Shows are the latest in trend these days. The first chat show that I remember vaguely was hosted by actress Tabassum. A beautiful lady, who politely interviewed actors.

The next chat show that I extremly loved was Randezvous with Simi Garewal. The show was hosted by none other than the beautiful Simi Garewal, former actress. The trademark of the show was her outfit in white. The set of the show was very subtle and mostly in white. That is what appealed to me about the show.

She had interviewed Celebrities, business tycoons, New Models , Sports person and the who’s who of the society. Her language was something that set the bar high. There was a time, when it was difficult to understand that level of English. The show was very sophisticated and classy and never meant to hurt any individual. Unlike Koffee With Karan or Kapil Sharma Show.

When Celebrities or Individuals are called on a Chat show, the idea should be to know what is in their mind. To inspire the audience with incidents from their lives. One such show which was telecast in the 2000’s was Satyameva Jayate, hosted by Amir Khan. He would select one topic, per week and then call the appropriate expertise on the subject chosen to have a chat. The show was not exactly what you would call as a chat show but still one of best shows, where the person who was being interviewed was not deliberately hurt or insulted.

There were many other chat shows similar to Satyameva Jayate, wherein they spoke with Domestic Violence Survivors, Victims of different crime etc etc. But somehow Satyameva Jayate touched our hearts. There was even one show hosted by Rakhi Sawant, which was again a disaster.

Karan Johar also had his own chat show on Star World, Koffee With Karan, where he was known to reveal the secrets of Bollywood celebrities. For Example, we came to know a very important thing that Salman Khan is still a virgin at the age of 50 and how women need to be treated by Hardik Pandya. The show only had A-Listers and included only the family and friends of Karan Johar. If you were called as a guest on that show, you were a star, that is what was the significance of the show. This was the same show, where Kangana Ranaut had openly spoken about Karan Johar being the flag bearer of Nepotism in Bollywood.

The other type of shows that you have on Television is the Kapil Sharma show. I appreciate Kapil Sharma for the fact that he made it big in the industry alone, without any God Father. His Team has the most talented artist with him. Almost every film star comes down on his show to promote their movies before release. The only thing that I do not like about this show is the Content of the show. Sometimes, it is plainly crass and misogynist. But the show is loved by the masses and that is purely one of the reasons why every actor wants to be on the show.

Chat Shows as per me should be classy and not insulting, like the present day shows. So this was my experience on the topic of chat show.
