H – Hey Lets catch up daily… The Story of Daily Soap.

This blog is written as a part of #BlogchatterA2Z for the Alphabet H. Hey Let us Catch up Today- story of daily soaps.

My Memory of Daily Soap of a Daily show goes down to Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi…. I was all of 15 years and the idea of watching a serial daily with women dressed in colourful outfits was like a dream come true. Those magnificent houses, with perfectly dressed men and women were a far away from our modest houses.

During the early 2000’s when Star Plus became a Hindi Channel, was when this boom in our Daily Soap happened. Star Plus initially started with Kahani Ghar Ghar ki and Kyunki Ki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi as a daily soap, from Monday to Thursday. I do not think any serial had such a huge fan following. Even though these shows would have a repeat Telecast the next day, yet women ensured that they watched every single episode and the repeat telecast also.

It was in the year 2000, when we sort of started becoming addicted to Television Serials. Yes, there were daily soaps earlier but the way Star Plus changed the consumption of our daily content, nobody could do it earlier.

Daily Soaps, in India in almost all the languages, are usually Family Dramas. In short, it would be the story of A Joint Family, wherein almost 20 people, or characters would live under the same roof in the Palatial House, have their own fights, resolve them. Then the vamp or Villian would enter, create some misunderstanding. N number of fights, /divorces, reconciliations, marriages, births are a common incidents in these story lines.

If you look carefully, more or less every Daily Soap Opera would look the same, yet there would be some minute differences.

Thanks, to the Web-Series, that I could survive on the new content.

BTW, the Daily Soap serials tell you stories about generations, not about one or two but atleast 4 or 5. Time Leap is one of their favourite attributes. Somehow, characters, which are supposed to be 100 years old also manage to survive healthily.

A good, I mean popular Daily Soap, would have atleast 2000 episodes in a span of 5 -7 years.

I have no clue about the present day status of Daily Soap, but I am sure, apart from turning the mainn character into a house fly or spider or a snake, they have progressed much further. If you know anything about today’s daily soap then please do not hesitate to mention in the comments.
