Panchayat – a surprising web series

The lockdown has given me ample time to have a look at the web-series at my leisure time.

So I recently completed watching a webseries on Amazon Prime, called Panchayat.

This web-series is produced from the house of TVF, who have been producing some entertaining series on YouTube. The series has 8 episodes of about 35 minutes each.

Jeetendra Kumar, who plays Abhishek Tripathi, is an Enginnering Graduate, who has landed up with a Government Job as a Secretary to the Sarpanch, at Phulera Gram Panchayat in a village in UP. What happens when a city boy is forced to take up a Government job in UP only because he does not want to sit jobless at home. A story of anger, patience, adaptability, novelty of a young lad, who has taken the first step to being independent. Securing a Job.

The Offical Sarpanch / Pradhan of the Village is Smt. Manju Devi, (Neena Gupta), but the offical duties of the same are carried on by her husband Brij Bhushan (Raghuveer Yadav) who is known as Pradhan Pati. A beautiful depection of reality, where Manju Devi was elected on the basis of Reserved seat for women, but the official duty was carried on by her husband.

A concept that urban people like us could barely think about. When we talk about women empowerment, we are far away in a different world. Yes, the Government has given opportunity to women, but still the same has been misused. The determination of Young Abhishek to not only survive in this village, but to also work hard and come out of his miseries of being stuck in a boring village is what runs this serial.

There is nothing superficial about this series. It is a simple series with realistic problems and practical solutions, which just touch your heart.

Neena Gupta, Raghuveer Yadav and Jeetendra Kumar are actors par excellence. I would so love to see Neena Gupta back on screen, even at this age, she is so beautiful and the poise and confidence she has as wife and a Pradhan is simply amazing.

A good binge watch this Lockdown season.
