My Hangover – #TheBookBlogTrain

The moment you see the title of this Blog, I am sure, all of you would be looking out for words such as alcohol and how to nurse a hangover. Sorry to mislead you, but this is about the hangover, that I had after reading. I developed a habit of reading at an early age and this is now an addiction now. I can read almost anything and everything and almost a victim of distraction feeding myself because I cannot eat unless I don’t have any reading material in my hand.

Books have always been my best friends, but some books just form a part of a beautiful journey called life. When books become addiction, it is difficult to leave then aside without relating to them or making them a part of you. I have been nursing a hangover since ages. There are some characters, some stories, which just drill themselves into your brains and force you to co-relate them. Here under are a few books, which gave me a real bad hangover:

Harry Potter Series by J.K. Rowling:– If I write about books, then it has to include Harry Potter series. A book that gave me the life. There was a point of time in my life, when I would go to sleep only after reading Harry Potter (I was around 24 or 25 then). Harry Potter helped me believe in magic, which could be done only by me and not by any outsider. I am still waiting for my Owl to arrive. If that is not a Hangover, then I don’t know what to say.

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen:- My favourite character in this book is Elizabeth Bennet. She is my definition of a strong lady, who can stand up for herself and take her own decisions. She refuses to be flattered by the compliments of Mr. Collins and stands tough against the arrogance of Mr. Darcy. The Hangover of this book was that I always thought that my Mr. Perfect would be somewhere a cross between Mr. Darcy and Mr. Bingley. I succeeded in finding such a person. Too much of a hangover, which I loved.

One Day at a Time by Daniel Steel:- How often does it happen that you are house sitting your sister’s house and her pet dog and a drop dead gorgeous Hollywood Star lands up at your house ? He comes at a point of time when you think you are an underdog and a black sheep for the family. If that is not enough the journey from being a complete private person to being a public figure can sometimes be scary. I love how Coco the main character in this Novel, has succeeded in this entire journey all alone. Even though she has all the luxuries in the world, sometimes it happens that you come across a lot of problems that only you can understand. Its beautiful, how instead of worrying about the future, Coco decides to live her life One Day At a Time. It is the title of this book that has given me the inspiration to live One Day At a Time, instead of worrying about things that are definately not under my control.

What would you do to Save the World by Ira Trivedi:– Most of the little girls in us, always dream of walking on the ramp and winning the crown of Miss India. Our generation, grew up watching the “prep” rounds of Miss India Contest. Ira Trivedi, a former Miss India participant, talks about her journey during those gruelling 26 days of “prep” rounds for a 3 hour contest, which would change the fate of 3 girls forever. I literally lived through her journey and almost imagined in my mind, as one of the contestants. I did not have much of a hangover, because reality hit me that I was never a beauty paegent material, but who wants to leave the fun of imagination.

P.S. I love You by Ceclia Ahem:– There is not a single time, that I did not cry, while reading this book. I always keep two to three soft towels with me, whenver, I read this book. It is one of the most romantic books that I have read. Though not an expert on love, romance genre, some how this book always makes me cry for days, just thinking about the tragic life of the beautiful couple. As much as I hate to read this book, I some how end up reading it, whenever I find some free time.

Not Without my daughter by Betty Mahmoody – Betty Mahmoody had been to Iran to meet her husband’s family but he some how tricks to make her live there with him forever. The book is set in Iran of 1980’s. It is about the journey of a mother, who refuses to escape without her daughter. She had an opportunity to escape the country alone, but she was determined to leave the country only with her daughter. It is definitely a must read for every woman. The more I read this book, the more it makes me stronger as a mother.

These are the few books that are close to my heart as well as my brain. I am always intoxicated after reading them and often nurse a hangover, but reading these same books again.
