Until a few years ago, women preferred to hide their pregnancy and Baby Bump for multiple reasons. Sometimes, for the fear of loosing work, sometimes, for the fear of not looking perfect in front of the society, which had always set unrealistic standards of beauty, most of the times, because we were told that showing off your baby Bump is not a great thing. At one time pregnancy meant women, would just wear their thickest dresses and buy oversized clothes. Who cares about the fitting, nobody is going to turn back and see shapeless gunny sack anyways.
With time, this trend is also slowly and steadily changing. Today being a pregnant woman does not mean, wearing just random clothes and hiding your belly. Flaunting your baby bump is the new trend. A few years ago, maternity clothes arrived in the market, which were not only fashionable, but also comfortable and tailor made to fit the body of a pregnant woman. From comfortable Feeding gowns, Nursing Bra’s to Maternity Jeans and leggings, it has definitely made the experience of Pregnancy completely different.
The maternity dresses are mostly made of soft materials and also have good support around your waist and breast. The maternity jeans that I had used for my first pregnancy were high waist and provided a good support for my belly and back, due to which, it not only looked good but also did not give me back pain. Most of the times, we women ignore small things just for ourselves, but investing a small amount for correct posture for your body can help you avoid a lot of health related problems in future.
Feeding Gowns and Nursing Bra’s, make feeding a comfortable experience. You need not lift your entire top just a small opening at the right places, and you and your baby can have your own privacy without making the breastfeeding experience being awkward.I came to know about maternity wear through my cousin, who worked as a Merchandiser with Mom and Me. Since, then they are my constant companions. It takes 9 months, for a body to prepare another body inside you and thus the shape of your body changes, it would take another 6 to 8 months to get you back in shape and not all women are lucky to have the same shape back again.
For me, I had a C- section, for the next couple of years, everyday, my stomach took a different shape, some days it was droopy, some days, it was high, some days, fat spread out from the sides. Yes, I am sure, there are a lot of women like me but we hate to admit this reality. Yes, Boggarts look cute in the Harry Potter movies, but when your stomach starts behaving like one, it is a real stress. The maternity Jeans, helped me a lot during this time, in supporting my body. It not only made me less conscious but also protected my stitches well.
Bollywood has always been our inspiration for fashion, knowingly or unknowingly, we have all followed the trend set by out favorite stars. With actresses, like Kareena Kapoor Khan, working till the end of her pregnancy and making glamourous appearance on the ramp, with her Bump, our trend is changing.
